Fancyland at Dali Art Plaza is Taiwan's largest indoor family theme park, covering more than 3,000 ping across nine themed zones. The zones include the Mirror Maze, Ice & Snow Wonderland, Rope Maze, Discovery Land, Sports Farm, VR Trampoline, TQi Bounce Castle, F2 Go-Karts and Play House, designed for kids and parents of different ages to enjoy together. The site has dedicated parents' rest areas, charging sockets and rich interactive facilities, letting parents relax while the kids play. Although listed as a free attraction, several zones require separate tickets; combination passes for any three zones or all zones are available, ideal for an all-day outing.

Gaomei Wetland, Rainbow Village and Qiuhong Valley are three of Taichung's most popular free attractions. Gaomei Wetland is famed for its vast wetlands, ecologically rich boardwalk and sunset views, a perfect spot for birdwatching, cycling and capturing the dusk. Rainbow Village is a community art space bursting with childlike painted walls, ideal for photos and a taste of local culture. Qiuhong Valley is an urban eco-park built around a sunken lake with sky-bridge promenades; plantings change colour through the seasons and the water's surface mirrors the sky, with the orange dusk reflection particularly romantic, making all three beloved by families, couples and photographers.

The National Museum of Natural Science in Taichung is Taiwan's first science museum. Its galleries span dinosaur fossils, a 3D theatre, a botanical garden, ecological exhibits, space and the human body, making it perfect for families. Multi-level interactive exhibits and educational activities deliver a wealth of natural-science knowledge and hands-on experiences. From 2026, the museum opens free of charge every Friday from 14:00 to 17:00, inviting more people to step comfortably into the world of science.

Audit Village in Taichung's West District is a creative hub reimagined from the 1969 dormitories of the old provincial audit office. The site preserves the original dormitory architecture and pairs it with craft boutiques, indie cafés, dessert shops and distinctive restaurants; regular creative markets have turned it into a popular haunt for artsy visitors, families and even pets. Admission is free and visitors can wander the ground-floor and second-floor arcades, exploring creative goods and food, then easily walk or take a bus onward to Park Lane by CMP and the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts.

Rainbow Village on Chun'an Road, Nantun District, Taichung, is an old veterans' village transformed by the brushstrokes of retired soldier Huang Yung-fu (the 'Rainbow Grandpa'). Every wall, floor and shared space is covered in colourful, childlike doodles, making it a healing outdoor art destination. The village is free and open year-round, perfect for photos, family visits and pet-friendly strolls. Buses 26, 70 and 99 stop directly at 'Rainbow Village (Gancheng Sixth Village)', and drivers can use nearby private parking. The site draws more than two million visitors a year, making it Taichung's most iconic painted village and a must-see for domestic and international travellers alike.

Shinkansen Train Restaurant at No. 37-21, Fu'an Road, Houli District, Taichung, is a restaurant made from a converted old rail carriage, creating a nostalgic railway atmosphere. Diners can sit beside the carriage windows while enjoying the surrounding fields, with a children's play area inside the carriage, perfect for families. The menu focuses on set meals, with signature dishes such as ramen, curry rice and country-style crispy chicken, plus drinks for around NT$100. Vintage locomotive displays on site let railway enthusiasts and ordinary visitors alike try a different style of dining.
