Beihai Tunnel in Nangan Township, Lienchiang County, is an underground dock carved out during Matsu's wartime era for warship mooring and air defense. It runs approximately 640-700 meters, with the waterway 18 meters high and 10 meters wide, designed in a tic-tac-toe grid pattern and excavated entirely by soldiers' manual labor. Now open to tourists, visitors can walk along the interior path, admire the chisel marks on the rock walls and the clear water, and take a traditional rowboat or kayak for on-water sightseeing. Because the tunnel connects directly to the sea, entry is only possible at low tide; at high tide the entire passage is submerged. The site is also a popular nighttime spot for viewing Nangan's blue tears, blending historical education with natural wonder, making it a must-visit for families, history buffs, and nature lovers.

Ba-Ba (Eight-Eight) Tunnel, located in Fuxing Village, Nangan Township, Lienchiang County, was originally a military standby tunnel completed on President Chiang Kai-shek's 88th birthday, hence its name. Thanks to its naturally constant temperature and humidity, the Matsu Distillery later converted it into a cellar for aging kaoliang liquor and old wine, making it a distinctive attraction that fuses battlefield history with liquor culture. The tunnel runs approximately 273 meters through granite, with neatly arranged vats exuding a rich aroma. It is cool in summer and warm in winter, ideal for escaping the heat and soaking up history. Visits require advance booking with the distillery; admission is free, and visitors should follow staff instructions.
Guozhibeijiang (Northern Frontier of the Nation) sits at the Houao promontory on Xiyin Island, Dongyin Township, Lienchiang County (the northeast corner of the Dongyin islands), marking the northernmost point of territory under the Republic of China's actual jurisdiction. The site centers on the 'Guozhibeijiang' stone stele and Beigu Reef, about 600 meters offshore. An observation platform overlooks vast sea and the northern waters, offering magnificent seascapes and sunsets. The spot combines military-historical significance with natural beauty, suitable for families, free of charge, and ideal for escaping the heat. At low tide, visitors can see Beigu Reef emerge and photograph the stele, soaking in the unique atmosphere of the nation's northern frontier.
Kunqu Beach, on the northwest coast of Xiju Island in Lienchiang County, is one of Matsu's most iconic coastal landscapes. The beach is broad and gently sloped, with a rich intertidal ecology. At low tide, visitors can walk along a gravel causeway to Snake Island, evoking a 'Moses parting the sea' spectacle. During major low tides in spring and summer, intersecting waves produce the rare 'square sea' pattern, drawing families and nature lovers to explore and marvel. The spot is also one of the best places to enjoy Matsu's stunning sunsets, perfect for family outings, photography, and ecological education.
Tanghou Road Beach on Beigan Island, Matsu, sits right beside Beigan Airport. Originally a sandbar connecting Tangqi Village and Houao Village, its fine white sand resembles sugar in color and is nicknamed 'sugar sand'. The beach stretches for several hundred meters with dramatic tidal shifts: at low tide it is wide and flat, while at high tide only a narrow path remains. The environment is clean with little litter, making it Beigan's most representative beach and a popular spot for family outings, escaping the heat, and free sightseeing, ideal for photos, sand play, and viewing blue tears.
Bi Mountain Observation Deck on Beigan Island, Matsu, sits about 298 meters above sea level, the highest point in the entire Matsu archipelago. From the deck, visitors can look down on Beigan Airport, Tangqi Village, Houwo, and distant islands such as Daqiu and Xiaoqiu. On clear days the view is vast, making it an excellent photo spot for sunrise, sunset, and aircraft takeoffs and landings. The trail runs about 730 meters with a thousand-step staircase; climbing from either Tangqi Village to the east or Qinbi to the west takes about 30 minutes, suitable for hiking and photography enthusiasts. The observation deck is a free public facility; visitors should beware of strong mountain winds and note that some areas are under military restriction, so avoid photographing military installations.
Daqiu Island, north of Beigan in Matsu, covers about 0.6-0.69 square kilometers and is the only uninhabited island open for tourism. The island is famous for its wild sika deer; visitors can observe and feed them up close along the circular ecological trail, evoking the natural atmosphere of Nara, Japan. The path winds through grasslands, coastline, and old military installations, combining pristine meadows, blue seascapes, and battlefield relics, making it ideal for family walks, escaping the heat, and ecological exploration. The whole island is open free of charge, reachable by a 3-5 minute boat ride, and is one of the most distinctive natural attractions in the Matsu archipelago.
